Brand Spotlight: Cookies

If you’ve been around the cannabis culture, you’ve probably heard of Girl Scout Cookies — or GSC officially (the actual Girl Scouts want nothing to do with cannabis for obvious reasons).

What you might not have known is that Berner, an entrepreneur and Billboard-charting rapper, and his own growing collective called Cookies Fam were originally responsible for developing GSC, among other popular strains.

Since launching in 2012, the Cookies brand has emerged not only as an acclaimed cultivator of connoisseur-quality cannabis strains but also as a beacon for the cannabis culture lifestyle.

That’s why we’re proud to be carrying Cookies and their craft products in our dispensary here in Brampton for cannabis users across the GTA.

Cookies, Cannabis, and Community

Cookies found its start in the Golden State of California, specifically in a city with arguably one of the greatest vibes on earth: San Francisco.

In 2008, Berner and his partner Jai, who’s also an expert grower, took their love of premium bud, started a cannabis farm, and in just under 3 years, went mainstream.

From the start, however, it hasn’t been just about the bud for Cookies.

Cookies respects the cannabis culture just as much as it respects the flower.

You can tell a lot about how strong a company’s values are and how much it respects the space it operates in by the length of time it’s managed to be successful in that space — especially one as low-key, word-of-mouth, and “fam”-oriented as local cannabis hubs.

It’s always had a deep commitment to restorative justice and progressive drug policy. Don’t forget, although we’re writing in 2022 and the U.S. House of Representatives have very recently passed an act to decriminalize weed (it seems doubtful it’ll pass the Senate) — Cookies was active on the scene when cannabis wasn’t socially acceptable and was harshly prosecuted by the Federal government.

Through advocacy and social equity initiatives, they’ve actively worked to enrich communities disproportionately impacted by the U.S. War on Drugs.

And now with one of the most vibrant and engaged social media footprints in the business, it’s easy to see why Cookies has grown so far from its roots in sunny San Francisco.

Roots that have now birthed multiple banger brands in the same bag as the Cookies label.

Award-winning brands like:

  • Lemonnade – the sister brand to Cookies. A sativa focused family of strains and products created for those in search of an upbeat and euphoric experience.
  • Collins Ave – a partnership between Cookie founder Berner and rap famous Rick Ross. A special curation of 3 strains, “Collins Ave,” “Pink Rozay” and “Lemon Pepper.”
  • Minntz – another partnership between legendary brand Seed Junkies and Cookies. Bringing together craft and quality for 3 more strains, “The Soap”, “Jealousy”, and “Christmas Tree”.

In total, Cookies’ boasts a collection of over 150 proprietary cannabis varieties and product lines, including indoor and sungrown flower, pre-rolls, gel capsules, vape cartridges, CBD Flower, and medicinal mushrooms — with their over decade long cannabis cultivation experience producing master strains like “Golden Gate Bridge” and “Gary Payton” (GP).

Coming to Canada

You can get many of those strains in Cookies’ brand new Toronto, Ontario location.

Set right on the busy Queen Street strip, Cookies opened up their first ever Canadian shop on January 29, 2022. The launch giveaways and other festivities draped waiting customers in some of the globe’s best bud as well as in Cookies’ slick blue aesthetic.

It’s a clean space where you can get everything from “Pancakes” and “Medellin,” to Rick Ross’ “Pink Rozay” and the Cookies + Powerzzzup Genetics collaboration, “Gary Payton” (GP).

Luckily, you don’t have to be in downtown Toronto to get your hands on Cookies’ fine collection of cannabis products.

Cookies Products at The Woods Cannabis

Our team at The Wood’s has its nose to the ground when it comes to major cannabis moves being made in the GTA, which is why we’ve specifically selected certain products from Cookies, like their Gary Payton flower as well as some of their extracts.

In case you’re not a basketball fan, the Gary Payton strain takes its name from the Hall of Fame NBA player and his trademark #20 jersey. A cross of the famed strains Y Life (aka Y Greiga), Snowman, Amnesia Haze, and Kali Mist, along with their phenotype #20 (hence the Gary Payton link), its dense green buds and burnt orange pistils are loaded up with a strong terpene profile — all gas and fuel with a strong, creamy finish. This highly-rated flower is for the experienced cannabis user looking for strong and heavy body highs.

If you’re more into extracts and concentrates, we’ve also added Cookies’ Georgia P. strain in sauce and diamond forms. Produced using a connoisseur-grade BHO process, this strain delivers a sweet, terpene-rich aroma paired with a potent high.

Cookies has been been around forever, its owner has fostered one of the greatest strains to walk this earth, and we’re proud to have them in The Woods lineup. Check out our collection of Cookies cannabis products on our online menu.
