The Flower

Strain Lineage: This is an Afghan dominant gene. The haze from the AK-47 lineage is visible due to the arrow tips of the flower, the abundance of pistils and the aroma.

Pigment: The bud is beautiful with deep dark green hues dominating the flower with a few splashes of bright green scattered throughout the bud. The splashes of bright green look like mini sugar leaves, but, its presence doesn’t impact the bud since the trichomes are coated on each one. The pistils are a dark orangey-brown and are abundant on the cultivar. The abundant presence of pistils is due to the haze genetic expression within the cultivar.

Ash Color: The initial ash color is a light grey but it quickly turns black. As the spliff burns, the heat quickly activates the oily compounds. They begin to secrete, making the spliff a brown-ish color as if its bleeding towards the filter. (The ash is dark in color as the trichomes are already being overheated when the spliff burns)

Aroma: The weed smells really good, characteristic of a black cherry cultivar. It has a sweet aroma with a pinene smell present, with the bud lightly coated in trichomes and the base having the density.

Trichomes: Density: the bud was completely coated with trichomes.

Appearance: Majority of the bud was covered with fully grown capitate-stalked trichomes. The bulbous’ were mostly clear with less than a few turning cloudy and amber in color. Some of the heads had dark spots within the head which is indicative of the compounds within the trichomes being aged to the point of degradation. It’s most likely the latter due to the size and location of the black heads. When busted open, the stem is just as covered as the flower, with non-glandular trichomes.

Trim: The trim is tight. The bud is dense and compact because of the Afghani genetics which typically doesn’t produce as much sugar leaves. However, the presence of the haze does. The flower has some wispy-openness to it, which makes the trimming a bit more difficult. Despite the trimmers, we still managed to get a close cut without damaging the trichomes.

The Experience (Spliff)

Duration: 3 – 4 hours

Climax: Within 10 – 40 minutes

Initial Reaction: The dry pull was dominated by spicy, earthy & citrus notes. This is synonymous with the presence of caryophyllene, humulene, beta-pinene and limonene.

When lit, the flavours didn’t change much at all which is a great sign of a healthy cultivar. With the intensity of the terpenes, we wouldn’t recommend taking deep breaths as it would cause discomfort in your throat. The initial toke immediately woke up my senses and the mix of spice, citrus and pine had a medicinal effect on me. My olfactory nerves lit up as my eyes began to water and I didn’t need to smoke a lot to feel high. It was definitely worth the price.

Midway: As the high continued I found myself wanting to relax and meditate. I started to perform breathing exercises and felt the need to perform self care. The colors around me were more vibrant and I felt a lot of love in my heart. It didn’t impair my ability to work, I actually enjoyed the challenge.

End: As the high came to an end, it felt as though I had been tucked in after a long day of work. My mood was extremely calm and I felt super happy.

Flavor: The flavor wasn’t my favourite as I didn’t enjoy how overwhelming the mix was. There was a total of 2.86% terpenes. The spice of the caryophyllene, the citrus from the limonene, the muskiness from the humulene, and the taste of old mulch from the beta-pinene tasted like I had just swallowed a menthol vapor rub. I wished the sweetness from the farmasene would be more pronounced, but the flavor was dominated by spice.

Packaging: The packaging is small and exactly the size of what a 3.5g cultivar would need to be to ensure its health and hydration. The container is a black glass which protects and maintains the health of the cultivar’s trichomes. Inside the package, is a Boost 62% round humidity pack.

Activity Pairing: Best used for medication, reflection, rest, massage or a slow and steady walk around the block.

Who’d We Suggest This For: We’d suggest this cultivar to anyone who doesn’t consume cannabis daily as a choice, and prefers to enjoy the finer things in life. I would suggest anyone looking to unwind and relax, this would be a good choice for you. For someone looking for a stronger high, this cultivar could be for you, but definitely not for those who are new to cannabis.

The Verdict

I do believe this strain represents what we, at The Woods are trying to achieve. It performed exceptionally well, and I would consume it on special occasions.
